Dr. Bexi Lobo, PhD: nutritional biologist, biochemist, skincare & cosmetic scientist

I used to have painfully dry, sensitive skin. From childhood, the condition of my skin dictated, and frequently limited, me: no makeup, no wool or acrylic clothing, limited social outings, no camping or athletic events. I was constantly wondering, "Will my skin be OK with this?" and "Do I want to deal with the concerned questions, teasing, and gawking stares?"

Prescription drugs, like hydrocortisone cream, and over the counter skincare products and natural solutions provided temporary relief without improving my skin function and health.  Aquaphor, Vaseline, and Eucerin made my skin oily, sticky and itchy, and worse, caused breakouts.  Aveeno, Neutrogena, Mary Kay and Alba Botanica left my skin dry and itchy. Natural solutions suggested by doctors, such as oatmeal and saltwater baths and butter scrubs, were ineffective.

Metabolic pathways are complex and interconnected. As I researched the effects of nutritional epigenetics on breast cancer progression for my PhD, I discovered that slight modifications to nutrient structure could have totally unpredictable, long-term effects on the body as a whole.  After completing my dissertation research I concluded that the most bioavailable and least stressful way to nourish the human body is using whole foods.

In science, we reduce and simplify complex metabolic pathways in order to understand them and, in so doing, we see only a part or parts of the picture, instead of the whole. Our knowledge of the world is only as good as the technology and tools we use to analyze it; what we know is mainly determined by what we can detect and measure, which, when it  comes to metabolism, is not that much. We are limited by the technology we're able to develop to detect biology and chemistry in action.

Two years after founding Bexi's Bespoke Revitalisation, I was diagnosed with Sjögren's (SHOW-grins) Disease, a common, but rarely studied or diagnosed, systemic autoimmune and connective tissue disease. Left untreated, Sjogren's is severely debilitating and can be fatal. My dry, sensitive skin was one of the biggest symptoms of my Sjogren's. It took me 10 years to piece together the seemingly disparate symptoms and then diagnose myself. My doctors were focused on a microscopic view of whatever my current symptom happened to be, rather than taking a holistic, macroscopic approach affording a more accurate diagnosis.

I combined my knowledge of nutrition and biochemistry and my passions for food and health, into formulating skincare products that provided my skin with the building blocks it needed to function properly, repair, and grow.  My skincare line is made from high-quality, nutrient-dense whole foods that relieve stress on your body and support your health.

We're in a relationship with the microbes living on our skin, they affect our health as much as we affect theirs.  Therefore, as I formulated my skincare line, I intentionally used ingredients, manufacturing processes, and packaging that promote healthy skin microbial ecosystems.

Over time, I created a different approach to skin care: one that was simple, sustainable, bespoke, and, most importantly, actually gave me more functional skin.  I founded Bexi's Bespoke Revitalisation to share my different approach to skin care with you.

Bexi's skin care is dynamic and requires your active participation.  My approach to skin care asks you to let go of how you think you’re supposed to care for your skin, to recognize it for the important, dynamic, and well-connected organ that it is, to lean into your intuition and observation, and to develop and nurture a symbiotic relationship with the microbes living in and on your body.

Together, we identify what changes need to be made to revitalise your skin. Then we revitalise your skin by implementing those changes.

The revitalisation phase, though resource intense, is temporary.  The duration of each stage of revitalisation depends on your commitment and circumstances.  Each stage can be as short as days and as long as years.

SKIN CARE FOR EVERYONE. EVERYONE HAS SKIN.

My goal is to help you impart life and vigor back to your skin in such fashion that your consumption of Bexi's skincare products decreases over time and your skin becomes more functional.  So, if you're looking for cost-effective, multipurpose, sustainable, skincare products that support your skin and reduce your need to care for your skin,  try a different approach to skin care, one that's tailored to you and actually revitalises your skin: Bexi's Bespoke Revitalisation.
